چکیده

Caffeine is a widespread environmental substance, and testing for caffeine is now highly sensitive. Currently, many authorities in North America are not concerned about plasma caffeine concentrations of 100 ng/ml, equivalent to 300 ng/ml in urine. This is because such low caffeine concentrations are likely to be associated with environmental exposure to caffeine and are also unlikely to be associated with pharmacological responses. “Trace” Benzoylecgonine Identifications in Post- Race Urines: Probable Sources and Regulatory Significance of Such Identifications

Cocaine is an environmental contaminant in North America. Benzoylecgonine (BZE) is the major urinary metabolite of cocaine in horses and humans, and urinary detection of BZE is highly sensitive. Human workplace drug testing typically uses a confirmatory “cutoff” for BZE of 150 ng/ml in urine. A number of horse-racing jurisdictions have adopted similar urinary “cutoffs” for BZE; this communicati...

:ONE OR MORE RACES...’: A Simple Method for Statistical Analyses Involving Multiple Racial Identifications

Multiple racial identifications pose a vexing challenge to individuallevel analyses. Typically, data analysts make arbitrary decisions to allocate multi-racial respondents to single-race categories. Treated in this manner, race may be employed as a nominallevel covariate of any number of interesting and important social, economic, or demographic dependent variables, but statistical inference is...

Effects of Energy Drink on Hematological Parameters and Renal Function in Soccer Players

Background: According to the results of some studies, the pressure caused by playing soccer increases creatinine, urea and derivatives of white blood cells (leukocytes, monocytes and granulocytes), red blood cells and nitrates, and as a result, causes dysfunction (1, 5). Increased urea production during exercise indicates an increase in protein catabolism. Elevated serum levels and decreased ur...

Caffeine and theobromine levels in chocolate couverture and coating products.

Thirty-two samples of chocolate products were analysed by HPLC for caffeine and theobromine contents. Defatted residues of samples were extracted with 80% aqueous acetone. After extraction into boiling water, the methylxanthines were identified and quantified with the use of μ-Bondapak column and mobile phase of methanol:water:acetic acid (20:79:1). Levels of caffein and theobromine in 32 sampl...

Transferred subgroup false discovery rate for rare post-translational modifications detected by mass spectrometry.

In shotgun proteomics, high-throughput mass spectrometry experiments and the subsequent data analysis produce thousands to millions of hypothetical peptide identifications. The common way to estimate the false discovery rate (FDR) of peptide identifications is the target-decoy database search strategy, which is efficient and accurate for large datasets. However, the legitimacy of the target-dec...
